Strategic Action Steps to Reconstruct Your Mindset and Produce Your Prosperity

Poverty is more than a lack of money. From Poverty to Abundance teaches that lasting change starts with renewed thinking, and it gives leaders a clear, Scripture-centered path to guide people through that change.

The series was developed during the 2020 lockdown by The Reckoning International’s agricultural team in Kenya, under the leadership of Melissa C. Herman. It was written by Kenyan nationals out of years of ministry among rural farmers. In its first month of use, the team saw more than 80% of participating groups shift long-held poverty paradigms, even groups that had been in partnership for over two years.

What’s inside

  • Lesson 1, What Is Poverty? Explores the three layers of poverty (circumstances, mindset, and spirit) through the stories of Bartimaeus, the lame man in Acts 3, and the Israelites in the wilderness. Includes reflection questions and a guided prayer.
  • Lesson 2, Identifying Our Resources: Uses the Parable of the Talents to help participants recognize the resources God has already given them: time, land, animals, kitchen gardens, family, health, and savings.
  • Lesson 3, Managing Our Resources: Covers budgeting, saving, and debt, plus creative thinking, critical thinking, and a six-step problem-solving process.
  • Lesson 4, The Generosity Cycle: Presents a model of community development built on generosity, need, opportunity, and sustainability, all fueled by God’s love.

Practical tools included: an Expense Tracker worksheet, a Money Diagram handout, and the Generosity Cycle handout, along with group discussion questions throughout.

Ideal for pastors, ministry leaders, small groups, missionaries, and community development partners working in discipleship relationships. The series also works well as a foundation before launching Mission 4 Character and the RoundTable methodology.
