My name is Hakil Chang, currently a senior pastor of JTM in Korea. I was born on an island about 100 miles west of Seoul. Trained in the major Methodist Seminary in Korea, I planted a church in the middle of a busy traditional marketplace. It was not only a marketplace but also a place infested with superstitions and evil spirits. The traditional name of the place was “house of spirits.” From the start of the ministry, I had to fight against many evil spirits. Being in the market, most of the church members were the merchants from the market. They were physically tired and spiritually thirsty. It was a daunting task to evangelize them and turn them into the disciples of Christ. Without God’s grace, nothing could be done. But with God’s grace, everything is possible. I have served the church that I have planted for 40 years since then. It is now one of the most influential churches in Korea not because of its size but because of its principle. The main object of my ministry was to help my church members to live as a Christian in their everyday life such as in family and business. My church endeavored to turn our town, which used to be the place of evil spirits into Jesus Town. We have made significant progress so far. It has had a great impact on other churches. There are multiple churches which named their churches JTM after us. God is doing a great work in us and through us.
